Mr Stephen Ijoko
The Concubine is a novel written by Elechi Amadi, first published in 1966. The story is set in a rural Nigerian community, somewhere in the East and follows the life of a young woman named Ihuoma, who is considered the most beautiful woman in her village.
The novel explores the themes of love, tradition, and the struggle between personal desire and societal expectations. That is seen around the love triangle between Ihuoma, her husband Emenike, and her lover, the wealthy and powerful Chief Emenike. In the novel, all of Ihuoma's lovers die as a result of a curse placed on her by a jealous and vengeful spirit known as "the sea king"
